GITC Group Inventory

In Alcoholics Anonymous, a Group Inventory is when a group pauses to take an honest look at how well it is living up to AA’s purpose and principles. It is basically the 12th Step for the group — just like individuals take a personal inventory, AA groups do the same.
What it is:
A Group Inventory is a structured, loving self-examination of the group, asking: “Are we still carrying the message the best way we can?”
It is not about blaming people. It is about checking whether the group is staying healthy, welcoming, and focused on helping alcoholics.
Where it comes from:
It is rooted in:
• Tradition Four (group autonomy)
• Tradition Five (primary purpose: carry the message)
• Tradition One (unity)
Bill W. wrote: “Every AA group ought to be fully self-supporting… and periodically take inventory.”
A Group Inventory is when an AA group lovingly asks: “Are we still being the meeting that saves lives?”
